Maxim is an editor with 25 years of experience in business journalism. He has worked at leading Russian-language publications, including Vedomosti daily and the local edition of Forbes, which he edited for seven years. Acting as the voice of the emerging entrepreneurial class in Russia, Forbes simultaneously worked to expose the flaws of crony capitalism and state inefficiency.

Until January of 2019 Maxim worked at Republic (formerly Slon), an online magazine widely-known for its independent commentary and analysis on issues ranging from politics and  the economy to science and technology. Republic was one of the first digital media outlets in Europe to introduce its own version of a paywall in 2014. The new approach helped the publication to become cash-flow positive. At the end of 2018 Republic was transformed into a cooperative of autonomous editorial groups which share the proceedings coming from 16,000 paying subscribers.

Maxim earned a Masters in Philosophy from Moscow State University, where his major was logic. In 2007 the Russian edition of GQ named him “Editor of the Year”, which was a part of the prestigious “GQ Man of the Year” award.
