Born in Leningrad, daughter of the Nivkhi minority father, Dr. Natalia Taksami holds an MA in Social Anthropology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks USA. In 2017 she got PhD in Human Geography from University of Eastern Finland. After years of work at Russian Academy of Sciences since 2012 she has been affiliated with the Karelian Institute at University of Eastern Finland (and is currently a post-doctoral scholar). Her current academic interests cover indigenous issues in Soviet and post-Soviet space.
