Ramazan Alpaut is a journalist of “Idel.Реалии”, the Russian-language project of the Radio Free Europe Tatar-Bashkir Service. Born on May 24, 1985 in the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, he graduated from school in Chechnya (1990–2001), then studied international relations at the Moscow State Linguistic University (2001–2006), and defended his master’s thesis at MGIMO on legal aspects of the protection of languages of national minorities (2010-2011). Alpaut began his career in the Department of Interethnic Relations of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation (2007-2012). After leaving the ministry, he began to write for various publications and conduct social activities – he was the head of the Moscow-based Kumyk organization “QUMUQLAR”, deputy chairman of the Executive Committee of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus, participated in the projects of Russian Germans, as well as the Federalist Union of European National Minorities. Actively published on the topic of ethnic and religious policy of Russia and European countries. Also, the journalist’s interests include issues of federalism and the development of local self-government.
In addition to journalistic, he has a number of scientific articles in Russian, English and Turkish. He also speaks Russian, German, studies Tatar and Czech, considers Kumyk to be his native.
